Monster Mash? Please, I Want A Party

Another trip back into the 90's in this post. It just seems like Halloween meant more back then. I guess that's because it was when I was a child and it was way more fun and I noticed more things than I care to consider now. Regardless, a big developing of my Halloween obsession started with the good ol' NES system and a game for it called Monster Party.

If that doesn't pique your interest, then you are no Halloween fan. The funny thing about that box cover, though, is that some of the characters don't even appear as enemies for you to face. If they are in the game, they are so obscure that you'd never know.

That's one of the things that made this game a gem. It was extremely odd. I emphasize the word "odd" because it is the only real way of describing the storyline and the game in general. You are a boy coming home from a baseball game and a gargoyle asks you to help fight evil creatures in some other world or dimension. Of course, you reluctantly agree.

It was a big deal at the time because it was the goriest and most frightening (for video games at least) video game of all time. It featured blood and death. It even says the word "Hell" (GASP) at one point in the game. This was coming from a game for the NES, mind you, which was created by a company who was a supporter of video game censorship.

Anyways, this game is a must play for anyone who's a fan of spooky anything that will get you in the mood for Halloween. As a matter of fact, NO EXCUSES! Don't have a NES system or the game? Suck it up, because here is a link to play it online and witness this bizarre piece of art for yourself.
