Vicarious Scares

Bummed out that you can't make it to Orlando or Hollywood for Halloween Horror Nights this year? Have no fear! Wait... scratch that. Do not fret! There we go. Because, thanks to the internet and video cameras, you can witness the excitement vicariously through videos of others walking through the attractions.

And my personal favorite because of the lack of night vision interference and all around coolness:

You can see more walkthrough videos from this year's HHN including the videos above without the night vision (hard to see a lot of stuff) by visiting this youtube playlist.

13 Nights of Halloween

ABC Family has released a preview video for the 13 Nights of Halloween for this year. Personally, I expect god-awful programming and a severe lack of enthusiasm for the holiday from ABC Family again this year, as usual.

Halloween in July

Our favorite season is drawing near, but seems so far away at the same time. Here's a little something to spark some Halloween spirit into everybody.

UPDATE: The YouTube video has been removed by the user. The fun is over.

Rainy Night

This is a video of the jazz band Medeski, Martin & Wood. One of my favorite bands. The only reason I feel it necessary to post this is because the song is very autumn-friendly, in my mind. Has a nice, laid back atmosphere like a cool, breezy night in October.

Button Pushers

Here is a video from one of my favorite bands, Stolen Babies. The song is called "Push Button." Their musical style and the art in the video seemed quite appropriate for a mention on here. Go buy their album There Be Squabbles Ahead because it's really, really good.

Friendly Advice

Here's a vintage video that goes over safety tips for Trick-Or-Treating. It's narrated by a friendly jack-o-lantern. This was before my time, but it reminds me of something a school would show to students on Friday afternoon before they get released for the weekend and get ready to storm the neighborhoods on Saturday night. The portion dedicated to checking your candy is one I, and my friends, would laugh and joke about while secretly feeling a bit nervous taking that first bite of each piece.

Walking Dead Season 2 Trailer

Here's the newest trailer for season 2 of The Walking Dead. Can't wait.

Now, get back to enjoying your weekend.

Nostalgia-ween

McDonald's used to be quite a Halloween friendly joint, if you remember. It seemed like, as a kid anyways, that they were doing something Halloween related every year. This included the famed pumpkin/ghost/witch pails, Happy Meal toys, etc.

Well, in 1995 they decided to do something very cool. They gave out cassette tapes that featured spooky songs and scary sound effects alongside the toys. Although I was only 5 at the time, I definitely remember these special treats and loved them to death. I listened to the one or two tapes I had as much as possible. If you are completely clueless to these or you may remember vaguely, here is a commercial spot to help you out:

I'm pretty sure I had the Hamburglar and Grimace toys and one of the tapes. Unfortunately, those toys and tapes are LONG gone. If only we knew how much we'd miss our childhood when our parents told us to gather things for a garage sale...

Luckily, other people do save these gems that appear lost in time. Here are a couple YouTube videos featuring the tapes. The B side of them (the spooky sounds and instrumental music) are the best, so just sit tight while listening.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtjji8chxeY (my favorite of the two. side b is great.)

http://youtu.be/9ouwTkv7-V8 (all sing-a-long type.)

These are the only two I have been able to find, so if you know where the others are just leave a comment and I'll add them to the post.

Buried Secrets

Everyone has secrets. Life would be boring without secrets. Don't you think?

Charlie Blood

Here is a wonderful Halloween variation of the Peanuts' "Linus & Lucy" song, or the Charlie Brown theme song. I have been playing this over and over, all day.

Check it out:

Dark Shadows

Growing up, my dad and I always watched Dark Shadows. I remember not going to school sometimes and watching marathons of the show when it was syndicated on the Sci-Fi (Syfy) network.
One of the creepiest theme songs - click to watch.

The Spirit of Jazz

Here's a clip from the show The Mighty Boosh featuring a character called The Spirit of Jazz. Although it's a comedy bit, the spook factor is there with the background music and the appearance of the spirit himself. He would be a great "greeter" character at a haunted attraction to keep patrons in line amused and also play a creeper role.
